Obverse of Slovakia 2 euros 2013 - Saint Cyrillus and Methodius
Krause - Mishler KM# 128
Details 1150 years from the Byzantine Advent of St. Cyrillus and Methodius in Great Moravia. Great Moravia was a Slavic state that existed in Central Europe and lasted for nearly seventy years. There is some controversy as to the actual location of its core territory, but from most scholars its core area lay on both sides of the Morava river, the territory of today's western Slovakia and in Moravia and Bohemia (today's Czech Republic)

Saints Cyril and Methodius were Byzantine Greek brothers born in Thessaloniki in the 9th century. They were Christian missionaries among the Slavic peoples of the First Bulgarian Empire, Great Moravia, and Pannonia. Through their work they influenced the cultural development of all Slavs, for which they received the title "Apostles to the Slavs". They are credited with devising the Glagolitic alphabet, the first alphabet used to transcribe Old Church Slavonic.
