Explanation: A metallic element. Since ancient times, one of the three main metals used for coins, along with gold and silver. It is also used in alloys of both gold and silver, to improve their working properties and their durability. Copper is also used with other base metals to form other alloys, such as bronze and brass, used for coins. Many 'copper' coins issued during the past two centuries were actually made of bronze. Recently many 'copper' coins have been made of copper plated steel
