The main them on the blister is Harmaja lighthouse. Helsinki coastline got the lighthouse in 1883, because the seafarers needed more light when sailing to the new capital in dangerous waters.
The rocks along the southern sea approaches to Helsinki have caused seafarers problems since time immemorial. When Helsinki became the capital of Finland, Tsar Nicholas 1st himself called for a lighthouse to be built beside this vital sea passage. The Harmaja lighthouse was finally erected in 1883 and since that time it has been a welcome signpost for all sailing off the Helsinki coastline. |
