Raul Germano Brandão was a military journalist and Portuguese writer, famous for the realism of his descriptions and the lyricism of language. His main works include The farce (1903), Poor people (1906), Humus (1917, considered his masterpiece), Or poor to ask (1931) and Memories (1933).
