Portugal Complete Year Set - EMU 2009

Obverse of Portugal Complete Year Set - EMU 2009

Please ignore the date on the coins

Details The Year Set consists of: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cent coins and 1, 2 euros commemorating the 10th anniversary of the EMU and the birth of the euro.

Portuguese euro coins show three different designs for each of the three series of coins, representing the first Portuguese King, D. Afonso Henriques. However, they are quite similar in that all contain old royal mints and seals within a circle of seven castles and five coats of arms and the word "Portugal".

Also featured in the designs are the 12 stars of the EU and the year of minting and the 2 euro coin shows a stick figure which merges into the euro symbol. It seeks to convey the idea of the single currency and, by extension, Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) being the latest step in Europe’s long history of trade and economic integration.
