The Official Blister 2006 contains the 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cent coins and 1, 2 euros, as well as a silver medal commemorating the "20 Years in European Community".
1 January 2006 was the 20th anniversary of the accession of Spain and Portugal to the then European Communities. It has undoubtedly been a positive experience both for Spain and for what is now the European Union. As far as Spain is concerned, it is difficult to find in our modern history a period of political stability, economic growth and social welfare such as the one we have experienced since 1986. There is no question that Spain today is more modern, more prosperous and more united than the Spain that joined the European Communities 20 years ago.
In April 1998 the Spanish Prime Minister unveiled the designs chosen for the national side of the Spanish coins: the 1 and 2 euro coins bear the effigy of King Juan Carlos I; the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins have the portrait of Miguel de Cervantes, the father of Spanish literature; and the 1, 2 and 5 cent coins depict the Obradoiro facade of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, one of the masterpieces of Spanish baroque. |
