Details The coin marks the Year for Priests, declared by Pope Benedict XVI for the period of 19 June 2009 to 19 June 2010 and concluding with an international gathering of priests with the pope.

The inner part of the coin features a shepherd drawing a lamb from a lion's maw. Two inscriptions are engraved around the design: the name of the issuing country CITTA’ DEL VATICANO on the top and the topic of commemoration ANNO SACERDOTALE below it. The year mark is displayed to the left of the design, the mint mark at the bottom and the artist's name VEROI to the right. The twelve stars of the European Union surround the design on the outer ring of the coin
