The Year Set consists of: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 cent coins and 1, 2 euros commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Euro banknotes and coins
Citizens and residents of the euro area selected the winning design for this euro coin, issued by all euro area countries to commemorate ten years of euro banknotes and coins. Using web-voting, they had five designs to choose from which had been pre-selected by a professional jury. The winning design symbolises the way in which the euro has become a true global player over the past ten years, as well as its importance in day-to-day life, with various aspects being depicted: ordinary people (the family of four), trade (the ship), industry (the factory) and energy (the wind power stations).
Luxembourg euro coins feature three different designs, though they all contain the portrait or effigy of Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg. The Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg appears on the coins facing to the left. Jean's portrait on the francs showed him facing to the right and it is common in a number of countries for successive monarchs to alternate the direction they faced on coins. |
